Day 64- Nov 1- Today we went to Stone's River National Battlefield. It was here that one of the bloodish battles of the Civil War was faught. 23,000 Union and Confederate soldiers were either killed or wounded.
Day-65 Nov 2- Today we went to the Country Music Hall of Fame. We had visited here before they moved into a new "state of the art" building in downtown Nashville. It is a first class museum spanning all the years of country music. Next we drove by the Parthenon for a picture.
Tonight we went to see the Grand Ole Opry for the 4th time. This was the first time we'd seen it in the Ryman and how much better we found it here. The smaller size of the Ryman made for a more personal experience and having 3rd row center seats was wonderful. Vince Gill along with the "old" generation of Little Jimmy Dickens, Bill Anderson and Jack Green were joined by Josh Turner and song writer Jimmy Webb plus a Blue Grass group and another "new" singer. Tuesday night is a great night to see the Opry because there are fewer entertainers and thus each one does 3 or 4 songs rather than the usual 1 or 2.
Day-66 Nov 3- Today it is pouring rain and "freezing" cold so we are just staying in. Nashville has changed with the closing of Opryland and the move of the Country Music Hall of Fame and as a result many of the smaller museums have closed. The great flood last year has closed down the huge mall that replaceed Opryland and it is still closed as is the Opryland Hotel.
Day 67- Nov 4- Today we went to see Judge Overton's house "Traveler's Rest". When we arrived we found there were 104 school children there. We were offered a half price tour joing a group of 25 4th graders. It would have been 2 hours before we could have had a private tour so we joined them. It was a great tour with just the basics and no "over load" of information. Next we went to Belle Meade Plantation. After lunch in the Plantation restaurant we toured the mansion. This was once the home of many race horses including Iriquoise.
Day 68- Nov 5- Today we started heading back to Fresno. We are staying at Tom Sawyer Mississippi RV Park in West Memphis, AR. The park is right on the Mississippi River and we watched several tugs pushing barges up the river.
